WHAT IS AN IP Intercom?
Is an IP intercom system a VoIP system, a cloud-based system, a SIP system? Yes. By definition, an IP intercom can be all of those.
Think computer network. The intercom door stations and video monitors connect to a centralised PoE switch for power and digital video & audio data transmission between the intercom door stations and video monitors.
IP intercoms are full-duplex. Both parties can talk at the same time, just like a telephone call. Video is high definition, and audio quality is crystal clear perfect.
One disadvantage of IP intercom systems is the cabling infrastructure must be CAT5/6; as such, it is unusual an IP intercom would be suitable for a system upgrade without cabling replacement.
